Some thoughts on my time abroad…

Importance of staying goal oriented as a digital nomad on the road

Be goal oriented as a digital nomad on the road!

Came across this great article on Huffington Post by contributor Brion Clark of careersidekick.com.  A digital nomad on the road and former recruiter who is now his own boss.  He left his desk job a year ago and headed to Thailand for a life of travel.  Some great excerpts that resonated with me:

“Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something we love is called passion.”

“When I set out on my own, I realized a month slips by incredibly fast.  This makes it extra important to set goals and prioritize everything.”

“There’s no feeling like waking up when you’re ready and working on things you care about each day.”

Investing in yourself helps you focus on the important things, but also increases the importance of self accountability.  Having freedom on the road is an amazing perk, but without leveraging your new earned time to refine your focus on your business idea or freelance gig can be detrimental to your personal growth.  Having thought out action plans helps with accountability.  What are your long term goals?  Can you break them down to weekly goals and prioritize these over the smaller, easier, tasks?  And to keep you from distractions like social media, lay out which goals you’re going to knock out the next day before going to bed.  That way you wake up with a game plan and break your usual wasted habit loops (trust me, I’m the biggest offender of the social media loop).
